movie posterThey came, they saw and now they can't wait to get back!

PLOT: In days of old when knights were bold and witch-burning was a regular Friday night entertainment, the Comte de Montmirail, Godefroy le Hardy, accidentally blights his wedding plans by killing a relation of his future bride. He enlists the aid of a sorcerer to transport him and his vassal, Jacquoille, back in time a few hours so he can prevent the murder from taking place. Unfortunately, it all goes horribly wrong and they wind up going forward in time to modern day France.

Hilarity ensues when the two have to come to terms with all the paraphernalia of modern life, from low-flying aircraft to cling film, from toilets to telephones.

fun with toilet cleaner and chanel no 5!

Godefroy discovers a female descendent from his intended bride and, worse, finds that Jacquoille's descendent now owns his former castle, running it as a hotel. However, time is rapidly running out for our two heroes if they want to return home to their own time...

YOUR RATING:Very Monty Pythonesque humour and the chance to see super assassin playing Jean Reno (Leon) in a high comic role. Some very John Cleese moments with a 2CV worth hitting the replay button repeatedly! While the humour could have strayed into over-the-top slapstick - it never goes too far but focuses on the ridiculous nature of everyday objects and how we take them for granted.

is it dead yet?

STYLE: There IS an American version of this movie with Jean Reno and Christian Clavier reprising their roles - The Visitors. The plot is typically Hollywood-ised into baby pap (but with some very expensive actors!). The French version is MUCH funnier and has a real honest freshness that makes it an unexpected delight.

EYE CANDY: Visual puns galore. Lots of little detail in scenery and fanatically accurate grime! Loved the dungeon!

LANGUAGE: In French with subtitles
