drama

PLOT: Sissi(Franka Potente) drifts through her life in a dreamlike state undistinguishable from the mental patients she takes care of and grew up with. Bodo(Benno Furmann) is traumatised by the death of his wife and the battles he has fought as solider. He and his brother chase easy money through one botched heist after another.

Then one day fate asserts herself, Bodo fleeing from a crime sets a series of accidents into motion which ends in Sissi being dragged under a lorry. Being the only person present with any first aide skills Bodo saves Sissi's life, then runs before the police take an interest in him. This one act of incredible intervention jolts Sissi into awareness of her life, her surroundings and set's her on a journey of self discovery as she searches to find the man who saved her.

dreamlike drifting

YOUR RATING: This film is all about how we can stumble on through our lives forever being the victim to circumstances, our environment, the expectations of our family and community. Others like to talk about this movie and the power of fate to move and change our lives, I think that's rubbish. In the end it's Sissi's determination to find at least one truth in her life, her faith that the man who saved her, she could in turn save shows us how we should look at oueselves and how we look at everyone around us. There is more to each person than the sum of their surroundings.

first touch

STYLE: No doubt about it, at almost three hours this film is long, and slow. But it gives you time to adjust to some of the subtle twists in thought and life philosophy you need to follow. It IS BEAUTIFUL and sleek in it's framing of the visuals. Loved the bank robbery, loved Bodo's self realisation in the car where he leaves himself by the roadside. But - it could have been shorter.

EYE CANDY: Benno Furmann - can we say shower scenes - again please!

LANGUAGE: Available in German with English voice-over.
